Corrosive Sulfur in Transformer Oil

Corrosive Sulfur can be found in your transformer oil and it’s presence can cause transformers to prematurely fail. Specifically, Dibenzyl Disulfide (DBDS) is a sulfurCorrosive Sulfur compound known to react with the copper (such as windings), creating byproducts that attack the insulation. Eventually, the transformer may fail. This can occur at levels as low as 3 ppm DBDS!

Power Substation Services has a process that can destroy the presence of DBDS and halt the corrosion attack within your transformer.

Unlike other treatment methods, the major advantage of the PSS process is for voltage classes 230kV and below, this destruction process can be performed while the transformer is energized, so the customer is not required to take a costly outage. Likewise, it is cheaper and more effective then purchasing new oil. Furthermore, PSS actually destroys the source of the corrosive sulfur as opposed to masking the problem; permanently removing the DBDS so that it can’t become a problem later.
