PSS Field Services also includes transformer oil reinhibiting. The PSS hot oil reclamation rigs can perform transformer oil processing on energized transformers up to 230 KV. Since we can process the transformer oil energized, our customers don't need to take an outage.
Transformer oil reinhibiting helps prevent oxidation, which can cause the formation of acids, esters, peroxides, moisture, and sludge. These
formations are largely
responsible for the deterioration of insulating oils. Transformers are designed to keep oxygen from entering the unit, (welded tanks, nitrogen blanket, etc) and
for many years the conventional method of providing oxygen stabilization has involved
the addition of Diteriary-Butyl-Para-Cresol (DBPC), to the oil. Adequate stabilization is attained with a concentration
of DBPC of 0.3% by weight of the transformer oil.
The DBPC is not soluble in transformer oil at room temperature, therefore PSS will process hot oil continuously through our rigs in a closed loop path and inject the DBPC directly into the heated oil flowing into the transformer.
